Giving up a well-paid city job as one of the UK’s leading advertising lawyers to see if a gem of an idea could be developed into a successful product would, for many of us, seem like a high risk strategy. However, in 2007 Solvej Biddle did just that and in 2009 launched her cot canopy concept to the market receiving universal acclaim from retailers, press and parents alike. In 2010 Solvej faced the BBC’s Dragon’s Den and forged a business deal with Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden and the resulting ‘TrayKit’ is now selling at the rate of one every five minutes in stores such as John Lewis, Boots, Mothercare and British Airways. Solvej will be sharing her story.
3.00 pmAnnual General Meeting• Are third-party online sales eroding your profit margins?
• Are the deals and restrictions agreed with your suppliers and distributors legal?
If not handled properly, many business agreements may be illegal and risk fines by the authorities, resulting in compensation claims and could make agreements unenforceable. John will give an overview into Competition Law and answer questions relating to your own business.NPD is a research company which partners with a number of major retailers including John Lewis, Kiddicare, Mothercare, BabiesRus as well as the majority of major supermarket chains contributing to the most comprehensive view ever of the UK’s nursery industry. Using the most recent data, Andrew will give an insight into the nursery market trends so far in 2013 including key category performances and the popularity of leading brands, while also touching on the impact of retail promotions and weather on the UK nursery trade.
