Grab a slice of the world’s fastest growing international baby products markets

Companies in the UK nursery sector are gearing up for a year of international exporting, having attended the BPA’s Exporting conference in London last week and being amongst the first to sign up for the BPA’s UK Pavilions in China, Germany and the USA in 2015.

The event provided a platform to explain the complexities of both the Chinese and the USA baby product markets and the enormity of opportunities both offer. Leading experts from CBME China, the China Britain Business Council and UKTI Washington division explained the difference in cultures, the growing wealth and aspirations of new parents and the increasing demand for innovative new products, in particular British branded items which are perceived as the best in terms of quality, safety and tradition.

Many questions were raised regarding the protection of IP, product liability and the cost of insurance, but with guest speakers from Dehns Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys and La Playa International Insurance, delegates received well-informed advice and a valuable knowledge base to tap into in future. Jim Shaikh of Yoomi, which joined the BPA’s UK Pavilion in Shanghai in 2014, also shared his experience of a Chinese baby trade show.

Guy Schanschieff, managing director of Bambino Mio, said: “Of specific relevance for me was the information on USA and China which I found very interesting and certainly learnt some things that I will be following up. I always think hearing from people who have actually ‘done it’ is always useful so Jim’s presentation was the best for me.”

Robert Anslow, BPA managing director, summed up the event saying: “Many UK manufacturers and suppliers of baby products are well-aware of the huge business possibilities the USA and Chinese markets offer, but have been hesitant to explore trading because of the complexities of different cultures and regulations. This conference aimed to allay fears and encourage companies to jump on board and gear up to start selling to China and the USA with the full backing of the BPA and UK government behind them.”

The UK Pavilions at CMBE Shanghai (July 2015), Kind und Jugend Cologne (September 2015) and ABC Kids Expo Las Vegas (October 2015) are now open for bookings and space will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, so companies wishing to participate are advised to return their booking forms as soon as possible to secure prominent positions.
